What I did

I joined the Gutiérrez Lab as a research assistant supporting a Ph.D. candidate’s work on two-dimensional and thin-film material synthesis.

  • Used chemical vapor deposition to optimize the growth of vanadium pentoxide (V₂O₅), hexagonal boron nitride, and related materials, with the goal of producing films more efficiently and at lower cost.
  • Characterized growths with atomic force microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction to guide the next round of optimization.
  • Learned cleanroom procedures and the synthesis theory behind semiconductor materials. This groundwork led directly to my independent C₆₀ project.
